Process

Our design process is integrated and iterative: architecture and engineering work in the same loop, and we go round it until the design stops changing. The drawings below are illustrations of the five steps, not a specific project.

The process starts with what is already there: the site, the brief and the conditions the design has to meet.

    Sketch

Early sketches explore different ways of placing and shaping the building. Several ideas are tried quickly, so the weak ones can be dropped early.

    Model

The sketch becomes a model where architecture and engineering are developed together: form, structure and climate in the same drawing.

    Test

The model is tested against the demands on the building, such as structure, daylight and energy, while changing the design is still easy.

    Revise, then go round again

The result of each test feeds back into the design. The loop is repeated until the design works as a whole.

Why the loop is shared.

When architecture and engineering are developed in the same loop, conflicts between form, structure and climate show up while the design is still easy to change.
